I do recommend handwashing due to the nature of the fabric, which is both pleated and sequined.

A Peek into Mimi's Mail

I just had to share this latest email from one of our customers. Once I read through it, all I could do was stare at my computer screen and say, "WOW!" This is, by far, one of the most touching emails I have ever received:

Once we know our measurements, we should next choose a fitted style.

Ladies, I can't stress this enough…nothing is less flattering than a large boxy top! For some reason, we curvy girls have been taught to wear extra loose-fitting, unflattering garments to hide our curves. Nothing could look less flattering. We need to choose tops that hug our curves, not hide them. Now, I'm not talking about clothing that is overly clingy or 100% spandex…I'm talking fitted.

Wouldn't you rather help to create a more curvy, hourglass shape than to just look boxy and wide? Well, I would! Let's put away the tent-inspired styles and let's choose styles that fit properly and flaunt our curves…I guarantee you will never go wrong when choosing a curve-enhancing style instead of a curve-hiding style!

Know Your Measurements 101

Fashion Tip Of The Week:

It's simple, and it will ensure you a satisfying shopping experience each and every time…
know your measurements.
Did you know that not all sizes are created equal? For some manufacturers, a 3X could measure up to a 44" bust while another could measure up to a 50" bust!

But don't fret!
Mimi's Curvy Corner will help you get the right fit every time! We provide unstretched measurements for each of our items…and the details are all included in each item's description. Sounds easy, right?

Well, there's more…fabric also plays a role in how a garment will fit. The good news is that we also provide fabric content for each item. Here's a brief lesson on some of the most popular fabrics used in today's fashions:

* Cotton: A natural and highly absorbent fabric mainly used for t-shirts, bed sheets, denim, and more. It is the least versatile fabric when used alone. However, it is sometimes blended with other fibers, including Rayon/Viscose, and synthetic fibers such as polyester to provide a better stretch.

* Rayon: Also knows as Viscose. Produced from naturally occurring polymers. Rayon/Viscose is a very versatile fiber and has the same comfort properties as natural fibers. It can imitate the feel and texture of silk, wool, cotton, and linen. Rayon/Viscose fabrics are soft, smooth, cool, comfortable, and highly absorbent, but they do not insulate body heat, making them ideal for use in hot and humid climates. It's actually more breathable than cotton! It also adds a great comfortable stretch blended with any fabric.

* Polyester: The most widely used manufactured fiber in the U.S. Polyester fabrics may exhibit other advantages over natural fabrics, e.g., improved wrinkle resistance. As a result, polyester fibers are often spun together with other fibers to produce a cloth with blended properties. Depending on the blend, you can either get a soft, silky fabric or a more versatile cotton-feel fabric.

* Spandex: Known for it's incredible stretch. Great when blended with other fabrics for a more comfortable fit. It is lightweight, soft and smooth, and resistant to body oils, perspiration, lotions, and detergents.

Should Curvy Girls Wear Prints...Or (Gasp!) What About a Floral Print?

I was recently asked: Do you think curvy women should wear prints?
My response was: Of course!

Why should our fashion choices be limited to dark colors? Mimi's Curvy Corner believes in embracing our curves and looking our best. Black is sexy and slimming, and there is a place for that (It happens to be my favorite color!)...but who said we don't look just as beautiful in other colors?

I often hear: But prints and embellishments make us look bigger.
My response is: Well, what about wearing the right prints and accessories?

If that is your concern, then how about opting for a vertical stripe instead of horizontal? Or, how about a larger print (yes, even florals!) with lots of background color for just the right look? And, yes, we can wear tops with sashes and belts and embellishments!

For example, the vertical stripe in the top below is very figure flattering and the belt trim helps to create more of an hourglass figure. And the colors...diva-licious!

And this floral? Gorgeous...and very figure flattering! The longer length helps to elongate the body and the sexy bust draws attention to the curves you want to be noticed most.

Now here's a fun print! You see lots of beautiful earth tones in between the retro swirls print, and the mock belt waist - again - helps to create more of an hourglass figure.

And for those of us who just love black (don't we all?)...try something with a fabulous trim or embellishment as seen below.
